The rage of the mighty Atlantic Ocean battering the rugged windswept east coast is defused by the barrier reef that stretching from Sam Lord's on the south east of the island to a reef called Bo Bells on the southern tip. This results in gentle waves being channelled into the serene basin that we know as Dover Beach.

This beautiful pristine gift of nature is so calm that even non swimmers and children can safely enjoy the best sea bathing imaginable. However, at high tide a wave is available for the enterprising surfer. Dover Beach has many diverse features, in some places bustling with activity that flows from the world famous St. Lawrence Gap to areas that are so quiet as to appear to be unspoiled by human hands. If you walk on the soft warm powdery sands of Dover Beach in the night please be very quiet so as not to disturb the Hawk's Bill turtle, a globally endangered species, which has nested on these shores for hundred of years.
